Who hath
appointed the earth a resting-place for you, and the sky a canopy; and causeth
water to pour down from the sky, thereby producing fruits as food for you. And
do not set up rivals to Allah when ye know (better). (22)
And give
glad tidings (O Muhammad) unto those who believe and do good works; that theirs
are Gardens underneath which rivers flow; as often as they are regaled with
food of the fruit thereof, they say: this is what was given us aforetime; and
it is given to them in resemblance. There for them are pure companions; there
for ever they abide. (25)
And
We said: O Adam! Dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden, and eat ye freely (of
the fruits) thereof where ye will; but come not nigh this tree lest ye become
wrong-doers. (35)

And We caused the white cloud to overshadow you
and sent down on you the manna and the quails, (saying): Eat of the good
things wherewith We have provided you - They wrong us not, but they did wrong
themselves. (57) And when We
said: Go into this township and eat freely of that which is therein, and
enter the gate prostrate, and say: "Repentance." We will forgive
you your sins and will increase (reward) for the right-doers.

And when ye said: O Moses! We are weary of one
kind of food; so call upon thy Lord for us that He bring forth for us of that
which the earth groweth - of its herbs and its cucumbers and its corn and its
lentils and its onions. He said: Would ye exchange that which is higher for
that which is lower? Go down to settled country, thus ye shall get that which
ye demand. And humiliation and wretchedness were stamped upon them and they
were visited with wrath from Allah. That was because they disbelieved in
Allah's revelations and slew the prophets wrongfully. That was for their
disobedience and transgression. (61)

Then, even after that, your hearts were
hardened and became as rocks, or worse than rocks, for hardness. For indeed
there are rocks from out which rivers gush, and indeed there are rocks which
split asunder so that water floweth from them. And indeed there are rocks
which fall down for the fear of Allah. Allah is not unaware of what ye do.
(74) Have ye any hope that they
will be true to you when a party of them used to listen to the word of Allah,
then used to change it, after they had understood it, knowingly? (75)

And when Abraham prayed: My Lord! Make this a
region of security and bestow upon its people fruits, such of them as believe
in Allah and the Last Day, He answered: As for him who disbelieveth, I shall
leave him in contentment for a while, then I shall compel him to the doom of
Fire - a hapless journey's end! (126)

Lo! In the
creation of the heavens and the earth, and the difference of night and day,
and the ships which run upon the sea with that which is of use to men, and
the water which Allah sendeth down from the sky, thereby reviving the earth
after its death, and dispersing all kinds of beasts therein, and (in) the
ordinance of the winds, and the clouds obedient between heaven and earth: are
signs (of Allah's Sovereignty) for people who have sense. (164)

O ye who believe! Eat of the good things
wherewith We have provided you, and render thanks to Allah if it is (indeed) He
Whom ye worship. (172) He hath
forbidden you only carrion, and blood, and swineflesh, and that which hath
been immolated to (the name of) any other than Allah. But he who is driven by
necessity, neither craving nor transgressing, it is no sin for him. Lo! Allah
is Forgiving, Merciful. (173) Lo!
those who hide aught of the Scripture which Allah hath revealed and purchase
a small gain therewith, they eat into their bellies nothing else than fire.
Allah will not speak to them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He make
them grow. Theirs will be a painful doom. (174)

O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed for
you, even as it was prescribed for those before you, that ye may ward off
(evil); (183) (Fast) a certain
number of days; and (for) him who is sick among you, or on a journey, (the
same) number of other days; and for those who can afford it there is a
ransom: the feeding of a man in need - but whoso doeth good of his own
accord, it is better for him: and that ye fast is better for you if ye did
but know - (184) The month of
Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for mankind, and clear
proofs of the guidance, and the Criterion (of right and wrong). And whosoever
of you is present, let him fast the month, and whosoever of you is sick or on
a journey, (let him fast the same) number of other days. Allah desireth for
you ease; He desireth not hardship for you; and (He desireth) that ye should
complete the period, and that ye should magnify Allah for having guided you,
and that peradventure ye may be thankful. (185) And when My servants question thee
concerning Me, then surely I am nigh. I answer the prayer of the suppliant
when he crieth unto Me. So let them hear My call and let them trust in Me, in
order that they may be led aright. (186) It
is made lawful for you to go unto your wives on the night of the fast. They
are raiment for you and ye are raiment for them. Allah is Aware that ye were
deceiving yourselves in this respect and He hath turned in mercy toward you
and relieved you. So hold intercourse with them and seek that which Allah
hath ordained for you, and eat and drink until the white thread becometh
distinct to you from the black thread of the dawn. Then strictly observe the
fast till nightfall and touch them not, but be at your devotions in the
mosques. These are the limits imposed by Allah, so approach them not. Thus
Allah expoundeth His revelation to mankind that they may ward off (evil).
(187) And eat not up your
property among yourselves in vanity, nor seek by it to gain the hearing of
the judges that ye may knowingly devour a portion of the property of others
wrongfully. (188)

Perform the pilgrimage and the visit (to Mecca)
for Allah. And if ye are prevented, then send such gifts as can be obtained
with ease, and shave not your heads until the gifts have reached their
destination. And whoever among you is sick or hath an ailment of the head
must pay a ransom of fasting or almsgiving or offering. And if ye are in
safety, then whosoever contenteth himself with the visit for the pilgrimage
(shall give) such gifts as can be had with ease. And whosoever cannot find
(such gifts), then a fast of three days while on the pilgrimage, and of seven
when ye have returned; that is, ten in all. That is for him whoso folk are
not present at the Inviolable Place of Worship. Observe your duty to Allah,
and know that Allah is severe in punishment. (196)

Mothers shall suckle their children for two
whole years; (that is) for those who wish to complete the suckling. The duty
of feeding and clothing nursing mothers in a seemly manner is upon the father
of the child. No-one should be charged beyond his capacity. A mother should
not be made to suffer because of her child, nor should he to whom the child
is born (be made to suffer) because of his child. And on the (father's) heir
is incumbent the like of that (which was incumbent on the father). If they
desire to wean the child by mutual consent and (after) consultation, it is no
sin for them; and if ye wish to give your children out to nurse, it is no sin
for you, provide that ye pay what is due from you in kindness. Observe your
duty to Allah, and know that Allah is Seer of what ye do. (233)

And when Saul set out with the army, he said:
Lo! Allah will try you by (the ordeal of) a river. Whosoever therefore
drinketh thereof he is not of me, and whosoever tasteth it not he is of me,
save him who taketh (thereof) in the hollow of his hand. But they drank
thereof, all save a few of them. And after he had crossed (the river), he and
those who believed with him, they said: We have no power this day against
Goliath and his hosts. But those who knew that they would meet Allah
exclaimed: How many a little company hath overcome a mighty host by Allah's
leave! Allah is with the steadfast. (249)

And the likeness of those who spend their
wealth in search of Allah's pleasure, and for the strengthening of their
souls, is as the likeness of a garden on a height. The rainstorm smiteth it
and it bringeth forth its fruit twofold. And if the rainstorm smite it not,
then the shower. Allah is Seer of what ye do. (265) Would any of you like to have a
garden of palm-trees and vines, with rivers flowing underneath it, with all
kinds of fruit for him therein; and old age hath stricken him and he hath
feeble offspring; and a fiery whirlwind striketh it and it is (all) consumed
by fire. Thus Allah maketh plain His revelations unto you, in order that ye
may give thought. (266)

Those who swallow usury cannot rise up save as
he ariseth whom the devil hath prostrated by (his) touch. That is because
they say: Trade is just like usury; whereas Allah permitteth trading and
forbiddeth usury. He unto whom an admonition from his Lord cometh, and (he)
refraineth (in obedience thereto), he shall keep (the profits of) that which
is past, and his affair (henceforth) is with Allah. As for him who returneth
(to usury) - Such are rightful owners of the Fire. They will abide therein.

O ye who believe! Fulfil your undertakings. The
beast of cattle is made lawful unto you (for food) except that which is
announced unto you (herein), game being unlawful when ye are on the
pilgrimage. Lo! Allah ordaineth that which pleaseth Him. (1) O ye who believe! Profane not
Allah's monuments nor the Sacred Month nor the offerings nor those garlands,
nor those repairing to the Sacred House, seeking the grace and pleasure of
their Lord. But when ye have left the sacred territory, then go hunting (if
ye will). And let not your hatred of a folk who (once) stopped your going to
the inviolable place of worship seduce you to transgress; but help ye one
another unto righteousness and pious duty. Help not one another unto sin and
transgression, but keep your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is severe in
punishment. (2) Forbidden unto
you (for food) are carrion and blood and swine-flesh, and that which hath
been dedicated unto any other than Allah, and the strangled, and the dead
through beating, and the dead through falling from a height, and that which
hath been killed by (the goring of) horns, and the devoured of wild beasts,
saving that which ye make lawful (by the death-stroke), and that which hath
been immolated unto idols. And (forbidden is it) that ye swear by the
divining arrows. This is an abomination. This day are those who disbelieve in
despair of (ever harming) your religion; so fear them not, fear Me! This day have
I perfected your religion for you and completed My favour unto you, and have
chosen for you as religion AL-ISLAM. Whoso is forced by hunger, not by will,
to sin: (for him) lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. (3) They ask thee (O Muhammad) what is
made lawful for them. Say: (all) good things are made lawful for you. And
those beasts and birds of prey which ye have trained as hounds are trained,
ye teach them that which Allah taught you; so eat of that which they catch
for you and mention Allah's name upon it, and observe your duty to Allah. Lo!
Allah is swift to take account. (4) This
day are (all) good things made lawful for you. The food of those who have
received the Scripture is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them.
And so are the virtuous women of the believers and the virtuous women of
those who received the Scripture before you (lawful for you) when ye give
them their marriage portions and live with them in honour, not in
fornication, nor taking them as secret concubines. Whoso denieth the faith,
his work is vain and he will be among the losers in the Hereafter. (5)

illicit gain! If then they have recourse unto thee (Muhammad) judge between

Lo! Allah loveth the equitable. (42)

O ye who believe! Forbid not the good things
which Allah hath made lawful for you, and transgress not, Lo! Allah loveth
not transgressors. (87) Eat of
that which Allah hath bestowed on you as food lawful and good, and keep your
duty to Allah in Whom ye are believers. (88) Allah will not take you to task for
that which is unintentional in your oaths, but He will take you to task for
the oaths which ye swear in earnest. The expiation thereof is the feeding of
ten of the needy with the average of that wherewith ye feed your own folk, or
the clothing of them, or the liberation of a slave, and for him who findeth
not (the wherewithal to do so) then a three days' fast. This is the expiation
of your oaths when ye have sworn; and keep your oaths. Thus Allah expoundeth
unto you His revelations in order that ye may give thanks. (89) O ye who believe! Strong drink and
games of chance and idols and divining arrows are only an infamy of Satan's
handiwork. Leave it aside in order that ye may succeed. (90)

There shall be no sin (imputed) unto those who
believe and do good works for what they may have eaten (in the past). So be
mindful for your duty (to Allah), and do good works; and again; be mindful
your duty, and believe; and once again: be mindful your duty, and do right,
Allah loveth the good. (93) O
ye who believe! Allah will surely try you somewhat (in the matter) of the
game which ye take with your hands and your spears, that Allah may know him
who feareth Him in secret. Whoso transgresseth after this, for him there is a
painful doom. (94) O ye who
believe! Kill no wild game while ye are on the pilgrimage. Whoso of you
killeth it of set purpose he shall pay its forfeit in the equivalent of that
which he hath killed, of domestic animals, the judge to be two men among you
known for justice, (the forfeit) to be brought as an offering to the Ka'bah;
or, for expiation, he shall feed poor persons, or the equivalent thereof in
fasting, that he may taste the evil consequences of his deed. Allah forgiveth
whatever (of this kind) may have happened in the past, but whoso relapseth,
Allah will take retribution from him. Allah is Mighty, Able to Requite (the
wrong). (95) To hunt and to eat
the fish of the sea is made lawful for you, a provision for you and for
seafarers; but to hunt on land is forbidden you so long as ye are on the
pilgrimage. Be mindful of your duty to Allah, unto Whom ye will be gathered.

Thus did he lead them on with guile. And when

We divided
them into twelve tribes, nations; and We inspired Moses, when his people
asked him for water, saying: Smite with thy staff the rock! And there gushed
forth therefrom twelve springs, so that each tribe knew their drinking-place.
And we caused the white cloud to overshadow them and sent down for them the
manna and the quails (saying): Eat of the good things wherewith we have
provided you. They wronged Us not, but they were wont to wrong themselves.
(160)And when it was said unto them: Dwell in this township and eat therefrom
whence ye will, and say "Repentance," and enter the gate prostrate;
We shall forgive you your sins; We shall increase (reward) for the
right-doers. (161)

And they say:
That which is in the bellies of such cattle is reserved for our males and is
forbidden to our wives; but if it be born dead, then they (all) may be
partakers thereof. He will reward them for their attribution (of such
ordinances unto Him). Lo, He is Wise, Aware. (139) They are losers who besottedly have
slain their children without knowledge, and have forbidden that which Allah
bestowed upon them, inventing a lie against Allah. They indeed have gone
astray and are not guided. (140) He
it is Who produceth gardens trellised and untrellised, and the date-palm, and
crops of divers flavour, and the olive and the pomegranate, like and unlike.
Eat ye of the fruit thereof when it fruiteth, and pay the due thereof upon
the harvest day, and be not prodigal. Lo! Allah loveth not the prodigals.
(141) And of the cattle (He
produceth) some for burdens, some for food. Eat of that which Allah hath
bestowed upon you, and follow not the footsteps of the devil, for lo! he is
an open foe to you. (142) Eight
pairs: Of the sheep twain, and of the goats twain. Say: Hath He forbidden the
two males or the two females, or that which the wombs of the two females
contain? Expound to me (the case) with knowledge, if ye are truthful. (143) And of the camels twain and of the
oxen twain. Say: Hath He forbidden the two males or the two females, or that
which the wombs of the two females contain; or were ye by to witness when
Allah commanded you (all) this? Then who doth greater wrong than he who
deviseth a lie concerning Allah, that he may lead mankind astray without
knowledge. Lo! Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk. (144) Say: I find not in that which is
revealed unto me aught prohibited to an eater that he eat thereof, except it
be carrion, or blood poured forth, or swineflesh - for that verily is foul -
or the abomination which was immolated to the name of other than Allah. But
whoso is compelled (thereto), neither craving nor transgressing, (for him)
lo! thy Lord is Forgiving, Merciful. (145) Unto
those who are Jews We forbade every animal with claws. And of the oxen and
the sheep forbade We unto them the fat thereof save that upon the backs or
the entrails, or that which is mixed with the bone. That we awarded them for
their rebellion. And lo! we verily are truthful. (146)

Allah coineth
a similitude: a township that dwelt secure and well content, its provision
coming to it in abundance from every side, but it disbelieved in Allah's
favours, so Allah made it experience the garb of dearth and fear because of
what they used to do. (112) And
verily there had come unto them a messenger from among them, but they had
denied him, and so the torment seized them while they were wrong-doers. (113) So eat of the lawful and good food
which Allah hath provided for you, and thank the bounty of your Lord if it is
Him ye serve. (114) He hath
forbidden for you only carrion and blood and swineflesh and that which hath
been immolated in the name of any other than Allah; but he who is driven
thereto, neither craving nor transgressing, lo! then Allah is Forgiving,
Merciful. (115) And speak not,
concerning that which your own tongues qualify (as clean or unclean), the
falsehood: "This is lawful, and this is forbidden," so that ye
invent a lie against Allah. Lo! those who invent a lie against Allah will not
succeed. (116) A brief
enjoyment (will be theirs); and theirs a painful doom. (117) And unto those who are Jews We have
forbidden that which We have already related unto thee. And We wronged them
not, but they were wont to wrong themselves. (118)

Allah is the
Light of the heavens and the earth. The similitude of His light is as a niche

fire touched it. Light upon light. Allah guideth unto His light whom He will.
And Allah setteth forth for mankind similitudes, for Allah is Knower of all
